The main objective of this course is to emphasize the importance of safety and protection of the public and workers on and around a jobsite. Our knowledgeable instructors, who are licensed Site Safety Managers, will discuss revisions to the Building Codes, necessary actions to perform to ensure public safety, accident preventions, importance of maintaining logbooks, examines the roles of Site Safety Manager, Coordinator and a Superintendent and much more.

The 8-Hour Site Safety Training course is a refresher to the 40-Hour Site Safety Course, which is a comprehensive presentation of Chapter 33 and the Rules of the City of New York that pertains to public protection. During the training, students will review the hazards of working in the New York City construction environment and the specific methods and work practices that are necessary on an urban construction site.

This renewal course includes a review of New York City Construction Codes and OSHA Regulations as it pertains to rigging operations and industry best practices. Subject matter will also include the inspection, maintenance, repair, use, installation, hazards associated with rigging methods, hardware, and equipment, hoisting machines with a manufacturer’s rated capacity of one ton or less, suspended scaffolds, fall protection and more. During this course students will be discussing changes and updates to OSHA and New York City Department of Buildings (DOB) policies, procedures and supported scaffold standards. Students will also have a chance to share jobsite experiences and opinions about new supported scaffold systems and solutions. This knowledge will help workers to properly prepare for and participate in supported scaffold installation/removal process.

The instructor will assess students to determine if each student is capable of applying rope knots used to rig scaffold equipment, properly install/maintain fall protection systems, safely build supported scaffold systems and walking/working scaffold platforms and immediately prior to the end of the course, students will independently participate in a multiple choice final exam.

The purpose of this course is to help supervisors maintain adequate safety discipline on suspended scaffold projects in New York City. During this course, participants will review Federal and NYC DOB scaffold regulations, how to stay in compliance with the most current Suspended Scaffold standards, exchange their experiences and will discuss the most recent changes in the rigging industry.

The instructor will assess students to determine if each student is capable of applying rope knots, terminating wire rope, building a block and tackle system, and operating scaffold hoist motor and each student will independently complete a multiple-choice final exam.

This course introduces students to the New York City Fire Code and Fire Department Rules including their organization and terminology, along with Fire Code construction site provisions and all construction site fire safety requirements. Topics covered will include fire safety plans, inspections, and record-keeping, training on fire extinguishers, testing fire protection equipment, hot work requirements, and industry best practices based on other regulatory requirements like the Building Code and OSHA.

Training Requirements for Construction Site Fire Safety Manager Training

Candidates for the New York City Fire Department’s (FDNY) Construction Site Fire Safety Manager (CSFSM) S-56 Certificate of Fitness (C of F) Exam are required to complete a CSFSM training course. Applicants have 1 year from the date of completing the course to apply to take the S-56 exam with the FDNY. If they do not apply within a year they are required to retake the entire course. The Fire Code requires that whenever there is hot work (gas torch, etc.) operation taking place at a major construction site, a fire watch should be done by a person holding an F-60 Certificate of fitness (C of F). The F-60 C of F is also required when hot work operations will be conducted in an occupied building or when repairs are being done in an office building.

This seminar prepares students for the computer-based F-60 Fireguard for Torch Operations C of F exam. Candidates will receive instruction on rules, regulations and best practices from the FDNY, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the Rules of the City of New York. Students will also be taught the proper protocol and procedures to stand fireguard duty during Torch Operations.
